I just can’t stop singing the praises of bone meal! This organic fertilizer will do wonders for your flowering plants. Comprised of animal bones, this powdery organic plant meal will turn your never-blooming azalea into a flowery delight.
I purchased this climbing rose last year and after I planted it the bush was barely hanging on. So being the easy-care gardening I am (I didn’t want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out was wrong with it) I absent-mindlessly sprinkled some bone meal (about 1/4 cup) on the plant and forgot all about it.
After a couple of weeks I noticed the bush begin to set buds and after a couple of April rains look at it now! Use bone meal on plants and flowers that bloom; the fertilizer is high in phosphorus. I sprinkled a couple of tablespoons on my Stella D’Oro (this is its 2nd year blooming, and look at the results!)
By the way, if your plant needs nitrogen (the leaves are showing a deficiency) use blood meal to feed the leaves.
Bone meal is easy to purchase. You can pick up a bag at your local nursery or order online. I have tried these in my garden and they are all comparable and perform well.
